why these ford spark plugs are so bizzare?

Those are the plugs for a Ford 3V 5.4 that like to break off during removal. The part below the threads breaks off and gets stuck in the head.

Why so long and what is the part below the threads?
Besides, this is the worst possible design of ground strap for flame quenching.

Its an american design, cant expect too much. Some guy designed on computer and anybody who didnt agree with design was asked to do the job of another engineer... so they kept it.

Japs would never do that.

They needed some way to turn a $2 spark plug into a $20 spark plug, a way for dealers to rack up more labor charges, and a way to sell more specialty tools.

I know you guys are all kidding, but there must have been some engineering rationale for this atrocity.

Sod off and keep your uninformed opinions to yourself.

wow quite the post there. Maybe go live in Japan then?

I've just been assuming that long, narrow business end of the spark plug gives them more freedom to optimize placement of the spark plugs, valves, and eventually fuel injectors. Either way, better to deal with a couple of broken-off spark plugs than the older style that would pop out.

Plugs blowing out had nothing to do with the plugs and everything to do with only 3 threads holding the plugs in the head.

Hmmm, I see innovation. Perhaps failed innovation, but still a new idea.

The spark plug sits in the most valuable volume of the engine. It's right in the top middle of the combustion chamber. Exactly where both the intake and exhaust are the most restrictive. You could let the engine breathe much, much better if only the spark could magically appear in the combustion chamber, without a huge volume needed for the plug, retaining threads and tool access.

One approach is to put the threads and tool access far above, with a long and relatively thin extension to carry the spark into the cylinder.

There is only the minor problems with sealing, corrosion, electrical insulation, thermal insulation/conduction, and dealing with combustion chamber pressure.

Every time I see someone say something like that, I want to make them drive a turbocharged Mazda RX-7 for a really long distance.

Yes, there was some kind of good reason for those stupid spark plugs. It makes designing the water jacket in the cylinder head easier.

However, I still agree that whoever made those spark plugs should be given an electric shock as a fitting punishment. He can go next the the guy from Nissan who should be hung for putting a timing belt on the VG-series V6 engine.

No, instead they'd design a cylinder head and its lubrication drainback system the same way and then the engines would sludge themselves to death

......YES!
Give him one for me for the [censored] distributor/knock sensor/engine mounts
