I drove to a local P.O. to send a letter to my attorney. They have a "drive up" blue letter box. It is huge, and will hold easily 1-1/2 cubic meters of mail.

It was full to the brim. It looked like it had not been emptied in a week, and it is in front of the Post Office building.

Holy smokes, what's happening?

Its the first, everything gets mailed. My tenants better have their rent checks in the mail or evictions will be filling up the outgoing box on the 10th!

Close to tax day too.
Once I filed close to the cutoff day and the driveup boxes were full.

Especially surprising since most drop boxes I've seen at the post office are supposed to get emptied multiple times per day.

No kidding. When they empty them, they are supposed to take a scanner out there and the scanner reads the bar code that is pasted inside the drop box to prove to the postal authorities that the mail was picked up.
