Dug this one out of the can today..came off one of our ford 5.4's awhile back...dont know exact usage ...prob 5-6k,conventional 10w30

The second pic down looks like it shows a tear in the filter media.

If it's not just a trick of the light, will you use this filter again? (No, not this particular one, but another 24651)

That's just a weird looking glued together seam ... I don't see any tears.

Is that a glued seam?! there must be a really thick blob of glue in there, on the left hand side of the image you can see the two ends of the media aren't touching each other - thats what I thought the rip was.
If the glue seals the gap properly then I guess its ok, but when I first saw it I definitely thought it was a tear
 
What are the date codes on the two Classics you posted? They both sound like they may have been older, both look to have been abused and held up fine. Makes me think the tearing issue is with newer filters.

The tears first started popping up in what, late 2010?
