When I worked and went to school in NJ, I loved having my gas pumped for me. It was especially nice during inclement weather.
The attendants would always let me fill my motorcycle though.
And even with full service, the gas was quite a bit cheaper than it was in NY where I lived.
ETA - It also seemed like the vast majority of pump jockeys were middle-aged Middle Eastern guys. From the time I spent working for Phillip Morris, it seems like a very high percentage of gas stations are owned by Middle Easterners (or possibly Indian/Paki). My guess is that said pump jockeys were the owners or relatives thereof.
