spark plug gap

just out of curiosity,what would be the end result if the gap of the spark plug was off by say -.005 or +.005 instead of the recommended gap of .030 on a briggs flathead? example .025 gap versus .035 gap. thank you for any input.
 
A slightly smaller spark and a bit less power. But, without a dyno, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference one way or the other.
 
Next to nothing. Sometimes I've run B&S plugs at 0.020 gap if the ignition is weak. I've taken plugs out that had the ground electrode burnt nearly off and it still ran.
 
Nothing. Some Briggs engines spec .20 while others spec .30. I've run both before to test out the difference and wasn't able to tell the difference. I think you might get a better spark when the engine gets really hot on a .20 gap.
