There seems to be 2 common opinions on BITOG when it comes to coolant; 1: Universal coolants are largely a no-no, and 2: Peak Global Lifetime is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

This seems like a major contradiction to me. What makes Global Lifetime so special?

PGL is well regarded because it is an EL coolant that doesn't contain 2EHA or silicates.

What is a no-no is universal coolants that are DexCool or similar. Peak Global is not.

As has been said Peak Global is just a good option for asian vehicles and there aren't a lot of others for those applications. OEM coolant is a ripoff and Zerex Asian is hard to find.

NAPA, CARQUEST and other parts places have Zerex Asian and G-05. Maybe you need to ask, but they can get it easily.

While I think Peak Global is a good coolant, if I had an Asian vehicle I would probably look for Zerex Asian.

OEM coolant is not always a ripoff. Most Japanese cars come with a coolant with phosphates, and PGL doesn't have phosphates. OEM coolant can be the best way to get the right stuff.

Also, some part stores sell the OEM coolant at a more realistic price.

I would never use coolant with a different inhibitor package, I just can't see saving $20 every few years at the risk of thousands of dollars of future problems.

I tend to agree with you. But it seems as though most of the risk of using a coolant with a different package than factory is compatibility issues with mixing the fluids. From what I've been reading, risk is greatly minimized by completely flushing the coolant system then refilling with a users desired fluid.

+1 A 2eha free EL OAT.

True that. The Asian OEM AF's and ZAF are only available as a premix, ie., half water. Makes doing a diy complete system exchange/flush series and obtaining the correct AF concentration both difficult and wasteful.

Just did a complete distilled water flush series using full strength PGL in an 01 Tacoma replacing Toyota red LL. Figure I'm good now for 4 years give or take.

If Asian OEM AF's and ZAF are available as concentrate then I will use it, even if it costs $20-25 a gallon because coolant doesn't needed to change for 4-5 years.

Honda coolant isn't low silicate. It has no silicates.

Well as said, ZAF and Asian OEM's including Honda Type 2, Toyota Super Long Life (pink), and the new Nissan Long Life (blue) AF are currently only available as a premix, so your point appears moot at this time.

And PGL is an extended life* OAT like which would also make it rated to 5 years, I said ~4 years as a conservative estimate. The full strength Toyota Long Life red it replaced is only rated ~2 years. And I picked the PGL up at Napa for $15.50/gal. I'm confident that FS PGL could do the same as the Asian oem AF's. *Note I call PGL extended life so as not confuse it with Peak Long Life which unlike PGL contains 2eha and is thus a universal Dexclone.

When I first joined the site Bill in Utah was looking for an AF he was comfortable using in all his vehicles, he chose PGL. Being a full strength no silicate AF, not containing 2eha and extended life to 5 years were among the reasons. I finally got around to using it.

I'm having trouble finding global full strength in Oklahoma....

And not sure about 50/50 or should I do.more water?
Going in a wrx with water wetter and Subaru conditioner

My local Walgreen's and Rite-Aid pharmacys both carry PGL 50/50 at reasonable prices ~$13-$14/gal.

My understanding too is that PEAK LL is also Phos/Sil Free(not low)
