AC Delco ultraguard PF44 vs PF59

The same filter but one is about an inch smaller(pf44). My 2003 Silverado and 2002 Z28 come from the factory with the pf44. I have been using the pf59 size in Napa Gold. Should I be using the smaller filter or the longer.heard that the smaller is better for these engines. You would think that the longer would be better. The Chevy dealer could not really tell me why GM uses the smaller pf44 and if the pf59 would be better for the engines. What do you experts think would be better? Many thanks!

My 2003 1500HD 6.0 also came with the pf44. The same truck prior to 2003 came with the larger pf59. The dealer told me that they were using the larger 59's on the 2003 for oil changes, until they got a memo from gm to stop doing it. No one knows why. I will be using the 44's on my truck.

BTW Delco has recently disconitued the 44 and the 46's are now recommended for our trucks!

Thank you Ross. I wonder why this is? How big is the pf46?
