Yeah, I'm cheap. I prefer to use the work "frugal".

There's a Fred's Discount store in my town that is selling their brand (Fred's) oil filters for $1.50 each. They also have Fred's Mercon/Dexron III for $1.00 per quart. And Havoline 10W-30 for 99 cents.

I could do an oil/filter change with Fred's products for under 7 bucks, including tax.

Does anyone know who makes their filters? They also have Havoline filters. Who makes Havoline?
Thanks.

Ha ha...I'll bet Fred does make them. Maybe in a back room of the store?

Actually the stores are found all around the Southeast, mostly in the smaller towns. They are the Wal-Mart of 20 years ago, with low prices on their advertised specials, and are listed on one of the stock exchanges.

Their ad caught my eye, because of the oil filter pricing. I've never seen a filter priced that cheaply. I think I'll look one over and see if it looks like a Fram, Wix, etc.

Fred's filters are probably made by Purolator--at least they look like a Purolator. I thought they were all Havoline branded anyway? Still made by Purolator.
