Recommended but Required

If 15 PPM is required, what is the point of recommending it? The alternative for not taking the recommendation is.....

It is recommended for all diesels. It is only required for either MY2006/7 and newer vehicles, or for all on-road diesels.

The language is usually along those lines on the pumps around here - really most likely to try to entice folks buying dyed diesel that is possibly higher sulfur into paying roat tax and buying the lower sulfur fuel.
 
Diesel pumps have this green sticker that states "Ultra-Low sulfur highway diesel fuel (15 PPM Sulfur Max). Required and recommended....."
If it required, what is the point of recommending it?
 
It's recommended because you won't find anything else! Even dyed off-road is all ULSD around here now. Better for the environment, not so good for your mechanical injection pumps.

Its just like paying your taxes. Required and recommended.

So that users follow the recommendation, otherwise quite possibly they will not know it is required, whatever that is...!
