got a gallon, how much to add to a 4 quart sump to clean out sludge etc? bottle says 1 ounce per quart, just wondering what amount you guys reccomend, thanks.

also on a side note (instead of making a new thread) does anyone know of a good (maybe solvent based) cleaner for a cooling system? like a flush.... to remove as many deposits and buildup as possible for a more efficient cooling system.... thanks.

edit: hmmm thinking maybe water mixed 50/50 with that CLR (calcium lime rust) cleaner in the radiator and running it for about 10 mins at operating temp then draining would work.

I would add a pint with full sump capacity, run till hot, and then drain.

Where is Salesrep when you need him?

so it would be a bad idea to run it for the 500 miles they recommend? it, according to the MSDS, has a flashpoint of 104F (c.o.c method) so it shouldn't last too long in the oil before it's gone, right? the rep i got it from said they just recently changed the formula, what was changed i don't know.

The one-pint suggestion was to use as a flush.

If you're going to run it as a maintenance dose, then yes, 1 oz./Qt.

It may have a flashpoint of 104 F, but it take about 200 more degrees to get it to evaporate.

Molakule is telling youhow to use it to flush out heavily sludged or varnished engine. If the engine is already clean and you are simply useing it like a mild purge then the 1 once per quart for 500 miles applies.

Don't use CLR in your radiator, please. It is very acidic. Apparently you aren't the only one to think of this use though...

From the manufacturer's website:

What makes CLR work so powerfully?
CLR is mainly made up of three acids: glycolic acid, sulfamic acid and citric acid.

Can I clean cast iron with CLR?
No, CLR cannot be used on cast iron; the acids in CLR will react with the metal.

Can CLR be used on galvanized metal?
No. Galvanized metal is coated with zinc. Zinc should never come into contact with anything too acidic. This will cause a chemical reaction with the zinc coating and it will discolor.

Can I use CLR to clean out my radiator?
No, CLR should not be used on a car radiator for two reasons. First, CLR may not be compatible with the internal metals of the radiator. Second, it could have adverse effects if the CLR is not rinsed out completely."

I have use an entire (small) bottle of Neutra in my cars for 500 miles without any problems. It really cleans the crap out of an older engine. I was amazed. Both my VR6 and my Volvo V90 run so much better now.

Overdosing and/or overrunning neutra in the crank is ok.
If you really want to clean it out pour a pint in the crank and a pint in the furel system.
Run it out 500 miles or so.

yes it can. I had it in mine for 4,000 miles on my 10,500 mile oil change analysis.

It’s definitely good to see a few threads going on Neutra 131 again. I am thinking of running 16 oz of Neutra in my crankcase for 500 miles. I have run this engine through multiple cleaning regimes. Yesterday I did a blotter at 1600 miles on the current oil and it looks as bad as my typical blotters at 3000+ miles. The history of this truck includes a sludge clogged oil pickup screen (first 58000 miles unknown), a 5-minute driveway engine flush, two AutoRx treatment and rinse cycles according to instructions, another rinse using 6 oz Neutra for 800 miles, and a 5w20 rinse for 200 miles. The only other explanation is that I found the PCV breather hose unhooked again (last time I found it unhooked the oil sample had 476 ppm lead, but it still had much better blotters).

So, should I do 16 oz Neutra? It’s a 6 quart capacity.

Also, 500 miles or maybe 1000?

I could follow up with a couple short OCIs of the Delo SAE 30 I got for 99 cents per gallon. By then if it isn’t clean it’s hopeless.

Hah. I found out I have a Schaeffer dealer virtually down the road from me and just got off the phone. They'll have a case of Nuetra 131 waiting for me tomorrow afternoon. $2 per bottle...

Can't wait to see what else they have. Man this is getting additictive! I guess it could be worse, I could be wasting my money at one of the 5 casino boats in my city!

Paul, do you have the yellow 12 oz bottles or a gallon of Neutra? Try 12 oz(bottle or measured from a gallon)in your crankcase, run it for anywhere from 500 to 900-1000 miles, then drain & change your oil. Betcha it comes out *real* nasty-looking. about a full pint/16 oz: I wouldn't add all 16 oz at once, but might run the 12 oz for the first 300-400 miles & then add another 4 oz or so. Personally, I doubt that a full 16 oz in a 6 qt system would hurt anything at all, just think it's better to be cautious.

I remember Bob posting about running a full 12 oz bottle in the crankcase of a small(~4-4.5 qt oil cap) car, think it was an Escort, & left it in for several thousand miles. The quote above may refer to that.

Neutra is a really versatile, great product. For the past few months I've been using the "MolaBrew" mix(2.5 to 3 parts Fuel Power to 1 part Neutra) in the gas on both cars whenever possible. Wish I'd mixed them years ago- as a gas additive, in my Neon & Mom's Mercury, the sum is greater than its parts.

Made 1-day round trips to Austin(~600 miles) 4 times in the past 6 wks in the big 94 Grand Marquis: overall average of 26 mpg, includes running A/C & cruising at 75-80 mph on I-35. That car has *never* gotten that kind of mileage before.

IMO, every BITOGer should have Neutra, Fuel Power, Lube Control, & Auto-Rx handy for use at all times!

And so the cycle begins anew. I highly recommend people search the archives. I've been having fun all week reading the first posts about Neutra, arx, FP, LC, Rislone, CD-2, STP, VSOT, MLEP....fun indeed! I was only a casual poster until recently so I missed the really meaty discussions of a few years back.

BTW, Christmas came early and they got me my Neutra this afternoon. It's a really neat lube supply warehouse in the middle of nowhere. Cool, Schaeffer's without shipping costs.

Don't forget to read the post about SLOB.

Both, I forgot you were the one who coined the acronym. But I had to get it into the thread one way or another. I'll take SLOB over all the listed oil additives because it has more zddp and is thin.
