I have a few stainless steel tools that have had a plastic wrapper type material melted to them. They have textured/knurled handles and I'd like to try to get them clean of this material. I've tried isopropyl alcohol and "orange solvent" cleaner because that's what was handy. Not much luck yet.

Any thoughts?

Brake Cleaner or Carb Cleaner.

That stuff will dissolve paint fast, so be careful and do it outside.

I don't know, but I've found out (the hard way) that B12-Chemtool will dissolve a "Red Solo cup" in seconds.

Acetone or MEK that's what I would start with. I bet you will need to soak for a little bit.

Xylene or Toluene. I'm a chemist.

On a trip to Lowes last weekend, I looked at some options. Xylene was only available in gallon size, so I passed. I have a friend who is wood worker and he has some xylene and other solvents on hand so I'm just going to let him clean them up this weekend for me. Cost was not bad, but really don't think I'll use a gallon of anything in the next few years, so storage and waste are a consideration.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll let you know how it works out.
