About $1400 to $2000 a month.

Yes, it can be done.

The payment on a $100k car is about that. RR doesn't finance or lease that's the customers problem. I guess maybe if you got some bank to do a 20 year loan on it you could get it that low. But than what happens when you get a $30k bill from the dealer?

Nice car, whats the starting price going to be around $350k-$400k before you customize it?

A lot of people who buy cars like this when they depreciate a bit mistakenly think, hey I can buy an older (fill in the name) for only $80k! I can finance $40k, put some money down and drive a super high end car for the price of a 5 series! But what they forget is that super high end cars have super high end repair bills, and than it breaks, the dealer estimates its going to take $10k to fix it... or $20k...or $30k...and they can't afford that...

I know someone who picked up a 360 Ferrari for a song that was parked due to the T belt service being waaaaay overdue and the owner not having the money to do it.

Yeah the star effect ceiling is a $12,500 option. Merely pocket change on a $350,000 car.

I'm sure there is a thread on this kind of question somewhere, but I've often wondered why some "exotics" are so expensive to maintain. If you are DIY'er, couldn't you tackle a lot of it? Now maybe on a mid-engined Ferrari 360, it may be a bit tricky without factory support, but older RRs were just front engined V8s.

Sure you can do a lot, and a lot of guys do. Most high end cars were built to be maintained and fixed, especially RR.

RR does things a bit differently than everyone else, so you really need to become familiar with those cars and some of their quarks before buying an older example.

With older higher end cars you really need to know exactly what to look for and you really want to pay more up front for a well looked after example with lots of service records. To a laymen an older RR or Bentley could look fantastic and still need $20k in work. Don't assume these cars are just "front engine V8's" like American cars of a similar vintage. That's not really the case, they did things their own way and some specialist knowledge is required to keep them going. A perfect example is the hydraulic system in the Mercedes 600 which was a direct competitor to the Ghost that was mentioned above. The oil in it looks like regular ATF, and Mercedes does sell a specific fluid for it that's not cheap, I think around $20 a quart, but you have to use it. Some people who don't know better will think, well hydraulic oil is hydraulic oil I'll save a few bucks and top off with whatever. Well that would be a $30k mistake since all the seals in the system are going to now fail. Its a cardinal sin to do this to a 600, but people unfamiliar with these cars who think they are just like a 60's Chevy don't know any better.

On the bright side RR, Bentley, Jag, and Mercedes have fantastic owners clubs with lots of knowledge of how to keep these old beasts on the road.

Looks like a Bilderberger on his way to Bohemian Grove. LOL

I'm sure it is a nice car, but I just can't see the justification of such money for any car. Even if I could afford one.

Considering how many 600s were owned by 3rd world dictators and the like, I wonder how well that worked out? Cow urine and mud probably would ruin the seals. I wonder what Pol Pot used?

Most of them had private staff and maintained them perfectly.

Mercedes Enthusiast did a story a few years back about the Mercedes of the Thai Royal Family. Threw Mercedes they commissioned a custom proprietary white that is only applied to their royal cars, Mercedes also adds on custom hood emblems. All their cars are in museum quality condition, maintained to the highest standards by a dedicated staff, and driven by dedicated drivers. Its amazing how well high quality vehicles hold up when given that level of care. Also of course since MB Classic Center is fantastic, any part on the vehicle is available.

Dictators usually have a lot of money.

Oh I think the hood emblem is worth more than a new Ford Focus.
