Has anyone tried the Wearever Platinum Premium Ceramic Brake Pads? On sale they cost about $10 more (or about 25% more) than the Wearever Gold pads. They would be for my wife's 07 Accord SE (front brakes). I can't see throwing money away if they are not worth the extra cost...

What do you folks think??

Bob

Anybody's best premium pads seem to be very good to excellent for street cars.
I believe in the best pads you can get.
Rotors are a [censored] shoot - name brand expensive ones may not be as good [or the same] as low end cheap Chinese stuff.

On my Altima I have Wagner ThermoQuiet's on the front and Wearever Platinum's on the back. Between washing's, brake dust accumulates a lot quicker on back wheels vs the front. Just an observation, not sure if that makes a difference to you.

I put Wearever Gold Ceramic on the front of my '04 Civic about 6 mos. ago (before they came out with the Platinum Line) and while they work fine, I have been disappointed with the dust they produce. I have used Wagner Thermoquiet Ceramic on an '05 Accord (among other vehicles) and have been happy with the braking performance and VERY happy with the low amount of dust they produce (less dust than factory pads). I will spend the extra $15 and choose the Thermoquiets over the Wearevers from now on.

thats been my experience with personal and customer vehicles. i have several customers that excusively use ceramics and every brake servive includes rotors. with semi metallics its a couple sets of pads before rotor are replaced. my 93 escort had 480k when the brother hit that tree, 400k on the weaver rotors.

I can get the OE pads for $50 shipped, so why mess around with store brand aftermarket pads?

^^^Perhaps because not everyone likes the factory pads?

I have had great success in the aftermarket with specialized pads for performance applications and heavy duty truck applications. I'm sure others have as well.

OEM is not the answer to every question.

Of course there will be certain applications where an aftermarket product may work better. However, this is more of the exception to the rule.

The OE product has gone through far more testing than any aftermarket product for anticipated customer use. There is no reason so far, to assume that the OP's vehicle sees use outside of what Lexus anticipated. Therefore, using the OE pads would be the prudent choice in this application.

The "BRAND NEW" WearEver Platinum Ceramic are ***supposed to be*** very quiet(better than the WearEver GOLD & Ceramic VSF) and low dusting. I would have liked to try'em but, I had already bought the Centric/Wagner setup from RA.

This past weekend(MEMORIAL WEEKEND)I just did a whole brake job on my wifes '01 Lexus RX-300 AWD and used Centric Posi-Quiet Ceramic with Wagner Rotors. The Centric's are a bit darker dusting than the Akebono/Brembo setup that I replaced(from 5 yrs ago) but, just as quiet/smooth. I went for price this time'round!

If it's any consolation to anyone here...I have used many brands of Ceramic Pads and like all of'em. I have used:

Akebono Pro-ACT-Probably the best by the smallest margin!
Satisfied
Centric-Probably the darkest/dustiest I have used for a Ceramic pad!
BENDIX
Raybestos
Monroe
& others I can't remember!

I bought the Wearever Gold several months ago, had them on for a few weeks and didn't like them and returned them. ymmv

I agree that OEM pads can be a good choice, but prices vary. The best price I can find on genuine Hyundai pads for my Sonata is about $65 shipped.

I will say that I probably wouldn't personally choose store-brand pads. While they may work fine, you really never know what you're getting. They could switch suppliers or use different suppliers for different applications. If I were considering them, I would go look at them in the store. If they're made in China, I'd pass. There are too many good brake pad choices to go with Chinese pads.

The pads the OP is referring to are normally $46 + tax. You can use discount codes to lower that. But for the same or a little more you could get a name brand pad with good online reviews like the Akebono ProAct, Bendix CT-3 or others. These are also two choices that should be made in the US or Canada.

It looks like these are the pads the OP would be getting. Of course, this could just be a stock photo Advance uses.

I have read they leave alot of DUST all over your RIMS... Now Im not sure if its a old review back when they are probably SEMI METALLIC

However thats what 3 people said.

And they did NOT have Trucks that would use more brake power.

They had small Honda 2 door coupes

Our vans run virtually at their GVWR all the time. We have tanks that allow over 300 gallons of water on board as well as heavy equipment!

I have tried them and they are a good pad. When i first saw them i was impressed with the finish and detail of the pads and also the FF rating, i must admit i was put off by the "Made in India".

Make a long story short i had put a set of Thermo quiets on a GMC and the guy was not happy, they were noisy,
No matter if they had sauce or not they squealed when cold. AA offered a replacement set or these after almost a year at no charge so i figured go ahead and try them.
The TQ were FE rated so if these new ones held up to their rating they should be better and they are.

Fit is very good, performance and noise is much better than the previous ones, they produce very little dust.
All in all these are good pads, regardless of where they were made i cant find anything bad to say about them. The customer is delighted so for me that is the bottom line.

I bought these for my Taurus after reading about them here. Not happy. Grinding sound under braking. I had zero noise with the old Raybestos pads that were about 2/3rds worn. I think they were semi-metallic judging from the ample dust.

Made in Mexico. Ceramic was OEM and box says ceramic. PITA. Going to stop by Advance later and see what they say.
