How do you determine which octane gas is needed for a non-stock engine? 93 EFI 302 making 325 rwhp. Just curious since I just got it running. If you need all the specs (head, cam, etc.) I will supply them. Thanks.

If it detonates on 87 octane, you need something higher. If it doesn't, you don't. There is no way to calculate it so giving us the list of parts won't help. A proper knock control system like the J and S Knock Box goes a long way in saving your engine and determining what octane you need to run.

Great answer.
Esp about using a KS to determine what is needed, not just to rely on it to make the car run.
It is best to tune so the KS does not need to ever come on. [Just on the verge]

Sometimes very high compression engines have very low compression! this is because a wild cam closes the intake so late.
