I'm really bummed about this. I recently restored Shelby Cobra CSX-3360, which was the last real Cobra ever built. It's competing at Pebble Beach this year and I was hoping he would attend and be able to see my work. I've never met him so it would have been a real treat.

So sad, seen this on Yahoo news.. A Icon passes, May he rest in peace.
(if this is covered elsewhere i didnt see it)

Well that sucks. He was 89 and I imagine he had a full life! I know very little about his personal side.

To say he drove and designed some very cool, great cars would be an understatement.

I was working as a Ford race crew member at the Detroit grand prix in the early 1980's. I met Carroll Shelby in the paddock, and we walked together up the stairs (a very long, long, flight of stairs) up to the car show. He was having a tough time getting up the stairs. However, he kept quiet about it, and simply pressed on, slowly.

My guess is that was prior to his heart transplant.

In any case, he was a very nice guy and clearly had a passion for Fords.

Very, very cool guy, who really created an icon.

The motoring world lost a good one - RIP always, Mr. Shelby!
