Anyone here using a 507.00 oil in their TDI? This is (apparently) a low-ash oil that is 5W-30 by definition, and has limited distribution / availability in the U.S. The easiest one to get (outside of a VW dealer......) here may be the M1 ESP 5W-30, which Mobil's web site states is only available at Chrysler dealers.

I've gotten and used the M1 5w-30 507 oil from pep boys. When on special, the deal is ok. TBN retention is to poor for use in a gas engine past 5k ocis.

M1 ESP 5w30 is 507.00 certified and available at Pep Girls as mentioned, Castrol SLX Longlife III is available at the stealership (typically not terribly expensive, especially if you buy a case of 12 liters), Amsoil has their meets-or-exceeds "507.00" oil and you could also consider the MB 229.51 approved Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5w40 also from Pep Girls.

But there's absolutely no need to use 507.00 in a non-commonrail TDI. Use of 5w30 diesel oils in previous generation TDIs has also shown unacceptable wear metal generation and in the PD engines drastically shortened cam/lifter life. Unless you have a CR, stick with Shell Rotella T6, Mobil 1 TDT, Schaeffer 9000 or similar.

How about the 2006+ Touareg V10 TDI? They have particulate filters which necessitated the use of low-SAPs oils.

Just to add my 2 cents (I'm somehow confused by this thread

Based on the VW customer center response published in 2009 (here in Czech language only http://www.znackoveoleje.cz/znackoveoleje/3-INFORMACE/14-Pouziti-oleju-pro-diesely-VW)

for the R5 and V10 TDi engines with DPF build after January 2006 you may use VW507.00 only, for the engines build till 12/2005 only VW 506.01 are allowed.
