I just got back from FL and while down their Hertz gave me a choice between a Crown Vic or the new Buick. As much as I like the Crown Vic I have already driven them but I have not driven a Regal made this century so I gave it a go.
8 days and 600 miles later, wow go GM! The gap between the last Regal I drove which was a late 90's model and this car is about the same as between a Piper Cub and a Gultstream G6.
While I was down their I looked up what they were selling for, IMHO its a deal, $26k for a car that is way better than what the Japanese are offering at this time.
The interior was nice, and modern. A bit cheap in some aspects but than again its not a very expensive car. Ergonomics were good. Power was a bit low but the upgraded motor would fix that. OTOH it drove great, rode really nicely, and was nice and quite on the road. All in all a proper American cruiser, set the cruise at 80 and waft, while returning mid to low 30's according to the dash.
I also think it looked pretty nice, had nice wheels, real Michelin tires ridding on 18in wheels.
All in all for the money its a pretty good package. Is it as good as a 3 series or a C class? No it's not quite as refined, its a notch down in all areas from those cars. But GM really isn't going after that market with the Regal. The baby Lexus I forget what they call the cheap one, the ES? That had better watch out though, its cheaper and 99% of the car it is.
