GTL or Gas To Liquid synthetic base oils are next in the barrel like Hydrocracked were 3 or 4 years ago.

I disagree with the commentator on the Torco site on the Chevron Hydrocracking patent. They sat on that technology for almost 20 years.

Shell just bought the rights to Pennzoils proprietary development of EOP synthetics ethylene-alpha- Olefin polymers as a cheaper alternative to PAO. Kind of like hydrocracking is to petroleum oil. See the latest(JUNE) STLE,Lubrication Engineering magazine for the article.
 
What can you tell us about this new GTL process? Will it be better than the current group 3 based synthetics?
