Hrs on oil 130 80 155 Universal ave.
AL 1 1 2 3
CR 1 1 3 1
FE 46 65 140 23
CU 2 3 7 3
Lead 2 2 8 3
Tin 0 3 0 4
Moly 80 6 10 58
Nickel 2 2 4 1
The rest is OK, including silicone at 2, which is super for the dirty conditions in which this unit is run .
The oil at 155 hrs was Rotella 15w40
I cut the OCI in half in an attempt to "flush" some of this iron
Then the oil was changed in the last sample to Rotella 5w40 (MN winter)
This unit has 11000 hrs, and was never opened up to date.
The question is, where to go from here ?
Cold starts are great with the syn.
Could it be the moly this unit likes ?
But the cost here for it is at $22/gal, and I am considering changing the entire fleet over, mainly because of ease. And the newer equipment generally calls for either syn oil, or lighter viscosity.
And I would rather stick to one oil if possible
Is there a cheaper/better alternative out there ?
Or have I found it ?
