Just bought a 2004 Ford F350 with the V10 and 32,000 miles from its original owner in California. I live in Canada and will have the truck way, way up north. What oil do you all recommend? Engine gets a very cold start every morning, idles all day.

Should I use an HDEO?

Ford recommends 5w-20 for that engine now days, but when it was first introduced it was spec'd for 5w-30. You still have the 2 valve version, the 3 valve engine came out in 2005. If your going to be towing a lot id use M1 0w-30 or petro canada 0w-30. The 0w will help a lot in extreme cold temps. If it's going to be idling alot and not towing with extreme cold, a 0w-20 would be ok.

It is a very good oil, but I believe it's been superseded by Mobil Delvac Elite 222. I'm not sure if it's the identical product, but it is highly regarded. It won't be cheap, though.

The Petro-Canada 0w-30 PCMO will likely be substantially cheaper.

Actually, Dr Haas says 0W-20 is ok even in the Ford V-10 in an Excursion or a van.

Im not joking.

He even says it says it is ok in the Ford manual. I dont know, never had one, but.. now im wondering.

Sooo...............

5w-20 in any flavor would be the recommended weight from Ford. Use any 0 or 5w20 or 30 motor oil with confidence. For Manitoba, a 0w20 or 0w30 would be a good choice in the winter.
