I've used lanolin-based rustproofing for the past 30 years. You cut it with mineral spirits so it's sprayable. The mineral spirits flash off, leaving the rustproofing behind. I believe this is recommended by every rustproofing supplier.
I did exactly as TnN did, and modified my paint spray gun for this task. Essentially, I added a long wand at the end of the spray tip so I can reach into the crevices of the vehicle. I bent the end 45° so it can spray pretty much anywhere.
