I see these type of filters discussed alot on here but I dont know how to tell if I'm holding one in my hand. (Example) TIA!

Nobody asked for opinions, however I will state mine since I predict a large influx of them.
I have personally used at least a dozen of them on my own personal vehicles and my family members use them most of the time as well. I have cut open a number of them and have never had a negative experience.
However, I don't use them anymore because of the fact that I quite enjoy purolator classics low cost and good build quality. Also I do not care to shop at walmart which seems to be the easiest place to find ecore filters i;e supertech(3" diameter and larger filters and ac delco.

You can tell one by the baseplate, usually. Or more reliable, looking into the center hole and seeing the plastic cage holding the filter media instead of metal tube with holes, as simple_gifts wrote.
