COMMENTS: Everything looks good in this sample, both for the oil and the engine. Universal averages for thistype of engine are based on an oil run of about 3,500 miles. You ran this oil exactly that long, yet wearmetals were lower than average, so your engine wears better than most. The oil was in good shapephysically, containing no moisture, fuel, or other contaminants. The air and oil filters (silicon and insolubles)
are working well too. The TBN read 7.0, so this oil had plenty of active additive left. 1.0 is a low TBNreading. Try going ~5,000 miles on your next oil fill.

Does it leak?
I tried in in an air-cooled VW engine and it was noticibly smoother sounding with the M1 15W-50 than the conventional oils I had been using, but it leaked past the seals on the pushrod tubes so badly that I had to quit using it.
Great oil if you don't have a bad leaker like me.

Mobil-1 15W-50 back when it had a "Red Cap" was a Group IV. PAO with a really good dose of ZDDP and great for Harley's.

Present 15W-50 M-1 is low in ZDDP.

I prefer M-1 20W-50 V-Twin. It's made for Harley's and worth the money. A true blend of Grp V and IV and lots of ZDDP to reduce wear.

you do realize it has sheared to a mid 40wt. actually a hair closer to 30wt than the 50wt it is supposed to be.
your flash values show either more fuel % than they are showing or something very odd with the sample.
however your wear looks pretty darn good!
if you are happy, dont change a thing!

and pete the zinc is 1255, hard to get more than that nowadays!

steve

Yes I know that it had sheared down but this oil had been run in stop and go city traffic in some serious heat in GA and NC. The valvetrain noise was getting a bit louder so I changed it and did a uoa. I do think it is better than the syn3 that harley makes. Thanks for your input.

serious heat? i blush. the last 3 days here have been 110, 112 and 109.

you wear numbers were really really good.

try to find some uoa's on here that are better for the same motor. i dont know you can find them. expect for the susvis and flash your report was pretty awesome!

steve

I looked up Harleys syn3 voa from the archives, and it's from march of '05. The numbers from your uoa, are higher then from Harleys voa. Here they are, Moly-1,boron-271,calcium-1342,magnesium-740,phos-997,zinc-1068. If Harley feels that these amounts are acceptable in a new oil, having more in a used oil can't be bad at all.,,

I'm using it in my Harley and my Beemer. I also like it for my various OPE engines although I am experimenting with Rotella T6 for those applications.
