@3,000 miles
Mobil 1 15w-50 oil (synthetic, automotive)
Fram XG3614 filter

Previous:
Castrol GTX 20w-50 oil (dino, automotive)
Fram XG3614 filter

Next @4,500 miles:
Rotella T 15w-40 oil (dino, automotive)
Fram TG3614

Notes: Switching to Rotella T 15w-40 conventional and the Fram Toughguard filter vice the Fram Xtended Guard and synthetic oils given the 1,500 mile change interval. Bike seems to like higher viscosity oils, particularly considering we are in the middle of Summer. Did run Rotella T6 5w-40 synthetic, great oil, but shifting suffered given the lower viscosity. Oil spigot has been modified via adaptor from 16mmX1.5 thread to 3/4-16tpi thread, thus accommodating more commonly available filters.

2009 Yamaha V-Star 650

Put in 2qts Mobil 1 v-twin 20w50 and 1qt Castrol full synthetic 20w50 motorcycle oil. Fram CH6004.

Out was 2qts of the Castrol and 1qt Mobil 1 15w50. Fram CH6004.

With the new oil (mostly Mobil 1 v-twin) the shifting has improved greatly. Much, much smoother. There was only about 1500 miles on the old oil. Really didn't need to be changed but I was bored on a rainy day and have a gigantic supply of motorcycle oil thanks to my dad giving me a few gallons for free. I had about 9 qts on top of that in my own stash. Yeah, I get an itchy wrench hand around drain plugs. My cars aren't safe either. 35-40 qts hanging around for them too.

Where do you buy your Fram's? I could use the PH6022 but the cost is much higher than the comparable automotive filter (PH3614) and I cannot tell any difference in construction materials...

I bought it at Walmart. . .

Are the by-pass valve specs different between the auto and motorcycle filters? . . .that's what I'd be concerned about.

EDIT: Nevermind. . .I just checked on the Fram website and the bypass valve pressure is the same (12 psi). . the only difference in the specs is that the motorcycle-specific filter is slightly larger in diameter and length. You should be good to go with the auto filter.
