Hey guys...neat site..first time posting

2006 Nissan Pathfinder
86,350 miles
stock diff fluid out
Royal Purple 75w90 in

Fluid still looked pretty good for original
 
Mine: 1999 F350. Drained OEM fluid front and rear and replaced with AMSOIL 75w140.

Friend: 2005 Silverado 2500HD. Drained Schaeffer's 75w90 from front & rear, replaced rear differential cover, refilled with Texas Refinery 890VP 80w90.

lol nope just the tiny wear particles that has a grease like consistency.... though on the one pic for some reason it looked awful squarish

214,000 subaru legacy, mobil 1 gear oil since first 30,000 miles. Gears look brand new, no differential problems.
 
2001 BMW 325i with 100,000 miles. Not my car I just helped my friend change it out.

out: factory fill gear oil
in: Castrol Syntec 75W-90

I've never driven the car before or after so I can't say if there is any difference. Not sure if its placebo but my friend tells me it rolls a little longer after letting go of the gas pedal.

Out: Mobil 1 synthetic, 75w-90
In: Valvoline conventional, 75w-90

Gotta do the transmission at some point, also.
 
Does the SVO have any group 5 in the base stock??

I did the same change as Ben in my 10 bolt (from RL 75W-140), and it actually seems quieter (less ring & pinion scream) with the Amsoil.
Even quieter yet once I added the 4 ounces of Amsoil Slip Lock L.S. additive.

Could higher ester base stocks actually make a ring & pinion louder (contrary to logic/common knowledge as this might seem)??
 
It was Sunday, I drained the oil (Chevron ESI 80W-90) out of the diff of my 2005 Honda S2000 and replaced it with the same Chevron ESI 80W-90.

The car had only 15,000 miles when I got it last year ... but I was anxious to replace all the fluids ... including the diff and manual tranny. It was a good thing, too. The diff came out really nasty looking. Dark and thick with lots of wear particles and a real mess on the magnetic drain plug. I refilled with .9 of a quart of Chevron ESI 80W90 and vowed I would run it one year and drain again as a flush. 2nd drain last weekend looked better ... but still plenty grey.

I will now run the current fill for 10,000-15,000 miles and do a UOA to see how this oil holds up in this notoriously inhospitable torsen diff. This should take about 3 years.

Could the outer worm gears actually be grinding against the case, hence the mess?

Yes it has some PAO's. Just like Redline has PAO. Different formulations.

Sort of an inside joke between Ben and myself Pablo, has nothing to do with AMSOIL and everything to do with Ben being hardcore with Redline, LOL
 
dailydriver, the S2000's diff is small, with a high gear offset and a small oil capacity. It is notoriously hard on gear oils and many owners opt for a 110 weight gear oil.

I've always wanted to try Chevron's borate gear oils so I'm kinda committed to using this stuff for the first few years ... then we'll see.
