Was told by a TOYOTA service center that their bulk oil is now GULF 5w-20 . Didn't say if it's a conventional or synthetic . Here's the P.D.S. for the conventional SN/GF-5 , http://124.30.44.229/GulfOilSearch/frmPrintForm.aspx?id=gulf-max-x_20110329173238.html&type=P and their synthetic SN/GF-5 , http://124.30.44.229/GulfOilSearch/frmPr...html&type=P . These are dated February 2011 . Here's their site for oils and other products . http://www.gulfoilltd.com/products_services/products_for_motorists1/index.html .

Cannot comment on their North American product range, but certainly here in the Middle East, it's a catastrophe. As long as it's an American product bearing the respective API and ILSAC logos, there should be no problem.

The Gulf brand for oil, up until recently, was owned by America's Refining Group (AMREF), and it was just re-labelled Brad-Penn oil.

About 8-10 months ago, Brad-Penn 'spun off' Gulf into it's own entitity, but they still made the Gulf oil. I don't know if they still blend what Gulf sells as oil, or if someone else makes it.

Liker johnny said, I don't think what you linked to is Gulf USA oil products - they have a site somewhere, and I thingk as of now, they still sell AMREF oil.

Where my BIL works, they use GULF oil in the fleet of Silverato's 5.3 & 6.0. As long as it meets spec, it's fine. He brought some home for the cars and it worked fine...5W30 & 10W30.

Off topic, and thanks for trying to make this political.

To answer the OP's question, I'm sure it's fine. It wouldn't be an OEM oil if it was garbage.

He didnt say it was an OEM Oil. Just the bulk supplier of his Toyota Dealer.

The last time I used Gulf Motor Oil I bought it from a Gulf Service Station about three decades ago.

As long as its SM or SN rated it should be fine.

When I was growing up I worked at a Gulf station, it was a mid-priced oil in an attractive can.I used it in my pickup(1970 f-100 360 v-8).We sold a lot of it.I wish it was still around these parts.

It looks like it was also popular in Canada in the late 1970's/early 1980's - lots of adds for Gulf station in papers around then.

Says for U.S. here , http://ew5.earlweb.com/search.php?site=38&sector=9&category=6 . Pick your vehicle and country , ex. TOYOTA (US) and click . Taking you to this , http://ew5.earlweb.com/search.php?site=38&sector=9&category=6&subset=281 . Then click on model and year , bringing you to here . http://ew5.earlweb.com/recommendations.p...p;vehicle=54035 . Telling of fluids and its capacity . The P.D.S. sheet for the synthetic looks to be good . Comparing it to SHELL Synthetic T.D.S. , http://www.epc.shell.com/Docs/GPCDOC_X_cbe_24855_key_140003596099_201007081845.pdf . Both are SN/GF-5 .

My recollection was that Chevron bought Gulf back in the 80s. In fact, I seem to remember it as being the first of the major oil mergers. Did Chevron sell off the Gulf brand?

Found these Product Bulletin Sheets ( same as T.D.S ) for the Gulfpride semi-synthetic motor oils , full synthetic motor oils , high mileage motors , and other products . This is for the U.S.. Go here for Gulf products and info on them at http://www.tier1brands.com/engineoils.php . The Product Bulletin Sheets were posted April , 2011 and are SN/GF-5 oils .

Gulf Lubricants are produced by a company called Tier 1 Brands. They have a full line of automotive lubricants that meet and exceed the industry standards. They also produce industrial oils and commercial lubes.
