There was a *lot* of questioning of the new Mobil 1 supersyn formulation. There were some saying that Mobil had gone the Castrol Syntec route of Group III with the seeming reduction in published number capabilities. Mobil did much to further the controversy by publishing the Mobil 1 Supersyn product data sheet on the Mobil Blended automotive oils page! It was only there for a day but a bunch of internet types saw it, downloaded it, and made wiiiide distribution. And as with each reformulation, the proof is in the performance. I have been through simple reformulations of products (not Mobil 1) that looked great, great numbers but failed miserably in the real world. In the past five years, in fact, even with all the great chemistries, testing, etc.
In summary, so far so good with the new Mobil 1 formulation.
