TBN 3.6 at 2481 miles? don't expect to go 7-8k but for now the green bottle's working.

them 3800 are easy on oil, great power plants.

Excellent uoa,and something I`ve noticed is that the 3800`s really prefer dino oil. My gf`s runs really rough on synth, but purrs on dino. Keep doing what you`re doing.

Looks great. Yeah, I'm all about longer OCI's, but if this is all short trips in Iowa's cold weather, I can sorta understand dumping early - if I'm reading this right, oil's been in for about 8.5 months?

Nice report. TBN depletion isn't linear. We've seen that often in other UOAs. I bet this report would look excellent with double the mileage.

Oil was actually only in for about 2 months, dumped for sample to check for possible coolant leak. Just never got around to posting the UOA.

Have now moved on to newer vehicle

Regards,

Thats the most stupidest thing i've ever hear. an engine runs worse on synthetic oil vs conventional

And that's the stupidest thing I'VE ever heard

Believe it or not, some engines do run better on different oils. "Better" being subjective of course

IMO, dino/conventional in the H4 is my preference for sound/vibration related reasons. Don't ask me why though!

Agreed, but it looks like 5k would be no sweat.

I agree

In my experiences with QS GB at 5K or so, is where the viscosity starts to go down. Did not do a $10 TBN on a oil that cost me $1 a quart when I used it.

First off, you've prob NEVER used synthetic oil since most all "full synthetics" in the US are "Super High Detergency" dino oils. Group II oil have BETTER lubricity than group III and IV oils and a high detergency to EP /AW ratio will increase the stick/slip phenomenon. So yeah, normal detergency dino can be "smoother/ quieter" than "synthetic"... a well blended syn will be very good in this area though. The proof of the pudding is in the art/science of the blender, so generalizations as putting all "syn" into one bucket are meaningless. Aso not that man engine utilising high leak down rate rollerised lifters operate better on certain oil type/ blends.
