Consider the Chevy Nova. If you're not familiar with the oft-repeated story, it goes like this: when it was introduced in Mexico, the Nova sold extremely poorly. A bit of investigation turned up the reason: "no va" in Spanish means "doesn't go."

Consider that Facebook is prob not the best place to learn anything....

I'll also move this to humor since its not factual in any way.

We had a 1986 Chevy Nova. We beat that car mercilessly.

When it had over 200k miles, we gave it away. The windows wouldn't roll down, center console broke, horn didn't work, we were putting STP in the power steering and hadn't changed the oil since the mid-90s, but we did a few filter changes. It was on its 2nd timing belt (1st one broke while we were driving). It went to the shop twice in 20 years.

When coming back from Georgia, on backroads, we pushed the gas pedal all the way down while in 5th gear and kept it there for at least 15-20 minutes. The car kept accelerating, but at a snail's "accelerating pace."

Routinely, it received full throttle in 3rd gear while merging onto the highway. It would ping and smoke occasionally, but the thing just wouldn't die.

That's how I know this was a myth.

GM allegedly changed the name of the Buick LaCrosse in Quebec because "LaCrosse" is Quebecois slang for....ummmmmm....a singlehanded activity.
