MAKE/MODEL: Honda Valkyrie GL 1500 6-cyl
FUEL TYPE:
ADDITIONAL INFO: OEM Air Filter
OIL TYPE & GRADE: Amsoil 10w30/30HD Diesel Oil
OIL USE INTERVAL: 08/12/09 to 08/06/10 Temps 25F to 100F in that time. Pure1 oil filter PL14459

BLACKSTONE COMMENTS: Universal averages show typical wear metals for an oil from this Honda GL 1500 after about 6,100 miles on the oil. Your oil was run 4,258 miles and wear metals read around those averages. All metals were in correct balance, which is a good indication that internal parts are wearing normally. This viscosity read on target for 10W/30 and was free of any contaminants. The TBN was still strong at 7.1, lots of active additive left. A TBN of 1.0 is low. Insolubles, which are solids formed by heat and use, were good at 0.4%.
Try going 6,000 miles next time.

My Comments: Very happy with this oil. Especially how it performed considering the wide temperature range and being in service for 1 yr.
During colder temperatures radiator was blocked 95% to maintain 180F water temperature and 185-195F oil temperatures.
Oil is still in service.
This is my number oil choice now.

Comments?

i wouldnt be so fast on the choice.

insolubles of %0.4 is the highest i've seen.

and your 10w30 is actually a 40wt!
as the top the of 30wt scale is 56.79 (9.3cst)

imho, this oil is sludging up.

something is not right with this choice. either the miles, time, motor or any combo.

i would recommend you chosing a different oil with the same filter and retesting.

According to Blackstone 59-65 is the 30wt range. The oil was at 58.8 which is better than my goldwings 58 using 10w30 Rotella. All my insolubles in any vehical I've had tested are always at 0.3% so is 0.4% really that high? Looks great to me, but I'm no expert.

The oil has sheared not thickened at all. Starting vis is 10.5cst, top of the 30wt range is 12.5cst.

Looks good, this is my favorite oil personally.

VOA for comparison.

9.30-12.49 per the charts.

Amsoil list 10.5
a previous post of a VOA was 9.9
so it looks like this oil didn't shear at all at 9.89
during this 1yr time frame. always had at least 5 minute warmup in winter and due to all the snow this past winter the bike sat not running for about 1 1/2 months.
when this oil was only rated at 30w it met the wet clutch specs like allison. when amsoil expanded the cold pour point another -10F it lost the allison spec rating.
Very impressed with the TBN after 1yr.
Smoothest shifting oil even now after 1yr I have ever used.
will sample again at another 4k miles.

AH BLOODY H E L L!

i read my chart wrong this morning.

not enough caffine i'm sure.

my appologies.

dissregard my above post that i cannot delete.

what gives?

People get all over my case for commenting too much. I've been trying to cut back. I do find it hilarious how quick some people tell Amsoil users "recommend you chosing a different oil" "this oil is sludging up" I know he retracted it, but the bias is just to glaring to let go.

Anyway, it's a nice analysis. TBN is huge. Good job for a low cost synthetic oil.
