If so, I need it to replace my collection of the World's Worst Oil Filter Wrenches.

Really, does it work?
Nope.

The fingers are too small and poke holes in the filter as you try to loosen. Then you have a stuck filter making a mess!

This is the best for removing stubborn filters;

I have one of these as well. It is great for taking off filters especially small ones. I'ts better than the cup ones that only fit one size and tend to stick to the filter.

I used one of these for years at a dealership. It works very well as does the aluminium cup type if the cup is the proper match to the filter.

I have the one craftsman makes and it works very well. I doubt it will ever break, but if it does it's backed by their lifetime warranty. For $10, it would have been a deal at twice the price.

Subsequent to starting this thread a long time ago, I purchased the Sears one with the three prongs that grab the filter tighter as you turn the wrench: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605...20070921x00003a

I found it is just about perfect for getting the filter off my Grand Marquis and didn't damage the filter. I couldn't get a strap wrench in there and turn it, and I hate having a pile of different cap wrenches. The Sears one looks like it will work well on most if not all of my applications.

That one WILL poke holes in the filter every time I used it if the filter was on real tight. Made such a big mess. The fingers are way too small.

Same as what was suggested above...

Well, if I don't take the cars to iffy lubes and the grease monkey (me) puts the filter on right I shouldn't have any problems. I might wrap the prongs with a little friction tape for padding, but so far no punctures. Cap wrenches are great if you have the correct one handy. My four main applications require four different cap wrenches, and I've found that different brands of filters don't always take the same cap wrench--for example Motorcraft and Purolator in the same filter use different ones.

That is what I use

I feel these are the BEST EVER!!

I've ordered indivduals off of eBay direct from the AMEAs.
Price was pretty good even with international shipping.

Wolf's

I'd rather have a near universal tool for $12.95 that I can carry in my tool box than a 21-wrench cap wrench set. It seems every time I crawled under the car using cap wrenches I somehow ended up grabbing the wrong one, and often the second one I grabbed was wrong too!

I only have two of the Wolf's Head Cap Wrenches. At the time somone on eBay was letting you select which sizes you wanted, I haven't seen them offered that way anymore.

I have one extra Wolf's Head that fits a PF48 perfectly if anyone is interested. (Silverado 5.3L)
