Saw it in my parts lookup showing a supercession list.

they are adding a silicone anti-drain back valve and "other modifications to increase durability" in relationship to the intelligent oil life monitor.

they say it will be required for the new Fiesta.

Unless it's the "S" after a "B".

Not controversial but a move showing Ford/Motorcraft believe silicone to be more reliable/longer lasting than nitrile.

Much like the FL-820S.

Curious though... wonder why Ford is sticking to two part numbers. The FL-400S has the same basic dimensions except for the length (which is now only 1/2" longer after its recent shortening). The 400 now fits all of the 2.0L 4-cyl Ford/Mazda (that I'm aware of) engines w/o issue. Plus the FL-910 has been nothing more than a rebadged Purolator classic.

I wonder if the new FL-910S will be shorter than its predecessor? Maybe have a threaded-end bypass system like the FL-400S instead of dome-end?

the problem with using the FL-400S on some of the 2.0's is that they can hang down too far and be broken off by parking lot kerbs.

That used to be true... however the newer FL-400S is shortened by approx 1/2" compared to the older version. That extra bit really makes a difference... I drive an '06 Miata with the 2.0L and I have a under-brace directly below the oil filter. The older version would, yes, come too close for comfort to that brace... the new version does not.

Then again, the layout may be different on some of the 2.0's... but I know the Focus, Mazda 3, and mx-5 with the same MZR 2.0L work great.

I guess the fiesta will use a different filter than the mazda2 (basically the same thing underneath the skin) afterall... the mazda2 uses the same metric thread filters that the escort gt/probes did and it also hangs vertically like what you see in the mazda3/focus duratec 2.0 engines, which makes ADBVs redundant
