I have a snowblower gearcase that is spec'd for Lubriplate GR132, what would a compatable grease I could use. I have a tube of Mobil 1 chassis grease, could I use it?

This was a first for me, I had to look up the product sheet for the GR132: http://www.lubriplate.com/pdf/pds/3_4 GR-132.pdf

Lubriplate says it is a lithium complex NLGI No. 1 grease.

I'm guessing your Mobil chassis grease is a NLGI No. 2, which would make it too heavy for the snowblower application. That's not to say it wouldn't work, but it is heavier than what is specified.

You could probability substitute any lithium complex NLGI No. 1 grease, or just get more GR-132 from Lubriplate: http://www.lubriplate.com/webstore/detail.aspx?ID=12

#1 can be hard to find locally. I know Amsoil sells #1 versions of many of their greases. The general purpose I think should do well.

So far I haven't been able to find #1 on the shelf anywhere in my area.

Check an industrial hardware store or an autoparts store that sells to industrial and construction customers. Especially in Michigan you should find some that need #1 consistency grease in the winter or in refrigeration equipment.

You might also check with a local power tool repair shop and ask if they'll sell you enough to do your job.
