I found this on a quick search. Doesn't say which version it's for or if it's the same with all of them.

Near the bottom there's a checkbox to 'clear history when firefox closes' and a settings button if you wish to specify exactly what.

Having that checked will make firefox completely erase your tracks each and every time you close it.

it wont be completely deleted.

to completely get rid of it, you will have to mess with REGEDIT.exe. if you know how.

i wont explain it here because it can cause problems if not done well.

google REGEDIT and history

HAH, sounds like someone forgot to put it in "Private Browsing" mode. The private browsing mode is nice, you turn it on and you can surf without creating a new history or saving the cookies, and then when you turn private browsing mode off, it goes back to normal with the previous history and everything in place. So it's like you weren't surfing.

It's a nice feature for when you share a computer and you're doing something like Christmas shopping for the other person. This way everything remains normal and they don't see what you were doing in the history. Though b/c of the more obvious uses for it, many people have termed it "porn mode". But it does have other useful uses (like hiding gift purchases).

Important to note, it only hides it from the browser side, your router and ISP will obviously still have records of everything, and I assume any locally stored DNS entries would also be there

I just did this and it worked:
Hit address pulldown so to see sites in pulldown.
Highlight the address you want deleted.
Hit the delete key, it should disappear off the pulldown list.

Works for me ... Firefox 3.0.17
