I drove a Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI the last time I was in Europe. I wish they sold it here (at the discount to VW prices it enjoys in Europe). It is a fine automobile.

I prefer mid-SAPS Valvoline 5W-30 MST because of larger TBN (7) - for longer interval.

I remember when the maxlife 10w40 was A3 rated. Not sure why they droped that off the bottle and web site.
