Do flat screens save power?

I have a newer olivia LCD 37 inch television, it uses around 80 watts.

My 10 year old Zenith 19 inch CRT television uses about the same.

So there are a few watts to be saved, but it isn't as much as you would think.

The only ones that use huge wattage is the old big screen cabinet type televisions.

Also plasmas use a ton of wattage.

To find out how many amps your TV uses:

P = V * I

where P = power (watts)
V = voltage (120v in US households)
I = current.

So if your TV uses 100w....

100w / 120 v = 0.83 amps of current

To get an idea of how much 0.83 amps is: Most circuits in households hold 15 amps before the breaker trips @ 120v.

Well I am still deguassing this antique about a dozen times a week. Had to get a hair cut today, and was ordered to go to the mall and pick up a size 4T snowsuit, regular $70 for $20. Wish Penney's had monitors.

I thought while I was there, I would see what Radio Shack and Sears had. Not monitors. Both had minor bits and pieces, but no computers or monitors.
