So digging around the Xterra forums and I saw a DIY Oil Catch Can. Seems like a good idea but is it really worth it to catch the blow by gasses?

I have a '02 Xterra and haven't noticed any oil burning.
I don't have the turbo charged model, but I would think that a catch can is a good thing in something that is used very hard.

Good idea? I haven't done enough research, but if you are burning oil or seeing an issue with sludge, I say go for it and report your results.

Turbos need a different system.
But sure, in any case, who would want that sludgy stuff collecting in the manifold, on the throttle body, on the valves, and in the combustion chamber?
Even when the car is off, heat soak will collect and deposit vapors all over. We want to attenuate that.
Do your homework and get a suitable system .

Why don't factories do this?
They can't put a system on that requires such high maintenance.
You will have to dump the residue out of the 'can' a lot.

Yeah I heard about dumping the sludge like residue out maybe once a month during cold/wet/rainy times of the year. During warmer summer months maybe every 2 months or oil change(results vary).

Was thinking about buying one of them off ebay(13 dollars) or just building my own and throwing a Fumoto Drain valve on the bottom of it.

Its worth to me.....

The ones from E-Bay will not have a filtering system.....
