When I run the Recovery Console, I get the following:

Microsoft Windows XP Recovery Console

The Recovery Console provides system repair and recovery functionality.

Type EXIT to quit the Recovery Console and restart the computer.

C:\>

That's GOOD news!!!!

run:

fixboot
fixmbr

See if you can get it to boot.........

Or at least get it so that the recovery XP install can see it.

Overkill-

I finally gave up and did a fresh reinstall. I was just hitting way too many roadblocks. I'm betting that the existing install of Windows was just too mangled to repair.

Plus, a fresh install always runs better anyway... It only took about 10 hours to get it back up and running, and to get all of the files reimported back onto it, and to get the printer, scanner, label printer, etc... all reinstalled.

Thanks much for all of your help. I can honestly say I've learned something with your help, and that is greatly appreciated.

No problem, glad I could help. It sounds like that installation was beyond saving if that didn't work.

And yes, a fresh install is always faster for sure!
