All we got up here laying around is Oak, Birch, Poplar, Sweet black Birch. Any of those "passable" for smokin brisket? Soory for the hijack - thinking about getting into the smoker world.
Oak is a fine choice. Good smoke flavor, but a little milder than hickory or mesquite. I could see doing a brisket with it. Pecan also works well with many meats. It's kind of fruity. Goes really well with pork or chicken.
