Any HDEO (Heavy Duty Engine Oil) 15W-40 with a CI-4+ or CJ-4 rating would do great. You should be able to run these HDEO 15W-40's (which are Group II based oils) ~ 7500 mile oil changes no problem, and get as good performance as synthetics in terms of wear and engine cleanliness.

The 15W-40's are good down to about -4F (-20C). Any colder than that, and I would be running the 5W-40's.

I wouldn't run a 15W-40 in something that will see much below 20 deg F for cold starts. That's 5W-40 territory in my book.
