Hey guys, doing the first oil change on my gf's explorer since she got it, but it doesn't have the owners manual with it. Anyone know the oil capacity w/filter? I think its 5qts. for the SOHC 4.0, but hers has the old pushrod 4.0. I gotta replace the Idle Air Control valve, so I figured while i'm under there I'll do a quick oil change.

I'm pretty sure it's about five quarts. Start with four-and-a-half, run it to operating temp when finished, then top off as necessary...

Capacities about half way down.......

well, went to wally world and picked up a 5qt. jug of good ol' Q.S. dino, a Motorcraft filter, and a bottle of Gumout with Regain fuel system cleaner. Its got almost 95,000miles on it. I was gonna go with Valvoline Maxlife Syn. Blend, but they only had it left in 5w-20. I think I'll go with that next go around, and do the plugs, wires, and fuel filter at the same time.

We really lucked out on this one. She totaled her saturn, and this one had just been traded in at the Ford dealer her dad works at. The couple that had it had always had it worked on there and he had just rebuilt the tranny in it last year, so atleast we know the history on it. Its fully loaded other than the fact it has cloth seats and the base engine, it had 93,000miles on it, and she got it for only $3,000.
