Can someone please tell the difference between an engine oil filter VS a hydraulic oil filter? in what way are they different?
or are they the same? I do notice that the hydraulic oil filters
seem to cost more money thou. TIA Alex

Too fine a level of filtration and (probably) the same holding capacity. They can't last long enough in a combustion byproduct producing environment. Hydraulic systems, like AT applications, are way cleaner.

They also (typically) don't have bypass valves ..and don't come in passenger car threads (the Jaguar/Lincoln being an exception. It has a 1-12 thread).

I guess if you got one that was big enough, it would work. You would still be spending a bunch more. I guess you could use one (a bigger one) in a bypass filter type set up, but not as a full flow. That would control/limit/inhibit the number and size of retained particles ..I suppose.

Looking at my John Deere filter I just bought shows NO anti drainback valve. No rubber no nothing. Just steel and media.

I think I've seen a few with ADBV ..but most don't have one.

Donaldson appears to offer 4 out of all their spin-ons

Hydraulic filters have pressure rated center tubes and casings way higher than an engine filter (certain exceptions). Also you can usually pick any one of a half dozen efficiencies and capacities with hydraulic filters.
Some can separate moisture
Some have bypass valves

All designed for a specific purpose, but usable in many other applications, including fuel filtration if you really want to get high capacity fine filtration at high flow rates.

Also used in ammonia compressors and many other applications.

You can spend a lot of time on this page if you really want:
