Just completed the required 8 hour course in order to get my concealed carry permit last saturday. The class was very informative, especially regarding Law and shoot, Don't shoot.

I use to have a permit when I lived back in Seattle, and carried a HK USP EXPERT for about five years. Here in AZ we have open carry provision as well. I'm thinking about getting a compact Kimber 1911 as my HK and other 1911 are a bit to large for arizona attire.

At the end of the class we were informed about new gun legislation that will ban all CCW's, mark ammo with serial numbers and prosecute anyone who uses a handgun in their home for protection. It's sad to see this great country headed to socialism. Look at what happened in Australia. Its time we all take a stand and protect our right to bear arms!

The U.N "our new world government" working on banning guns for years as only the govermnment needs guns. Not my idea but that is what is happening . In all honesty not enough people care as I have been watching this happen for years. People only care about if their sports team is on T.V. or who is on Dancing with the Stars. [ I do not know what people see in a sports team to call the busisness theirs or who is winning on dancing with the Star!

Did they give you stats on how often a household firearm gets used on someone that isn't a bad guy? Or how often the "hero" gets shot when he unholsters his firearm? Just to make you think about what your doing? When I took a chainsaw course they gave some good injury/death stats, so you realize that your taking your life in your hands when you walk into the woods with a saw.

I have to say I'm not a big concealed or even open carry weapon fan, but I do like the right to bear(bare?) firearms in your constitution. Not so much for people stealing my stuff but for protection from the government if things get way way off track somehow. It's too bad the average joe and jane just see's guns in the 6 o'clock news, either in crime or hunting accidents...

A gun gives YOU options. If you have no gun, YOU have NO options when faced with an armed attacker.

Car accidents kill more family members in a week, then gun accidents do every 3+years.
No one is concerned with stopping you from driving with your family. I wonder Why???

Before you start assuming anything, I have taken several courses (tactical handgun, defensive pistol) and realize what is at stake here. Do I think everyone should carry, NO i do not. If you are going to carry you need to train constantly. I train to be better than the bad guy. How many of the people who were shot trained on a consistent basis for a true "self defense situation" with a piston at close range??? Just because you have a permit doesnt mean you know how to use it. And I hope I never have to use mine. What do you suggest, we just wait for the police to come save us?

I will agree to strongly disagree.

My instructor was Ken Senft of Guns Plus. Took the class out at Ben Avery shooting range.

A piston at close range can be like a club esp from a inline 300 ford. I would rather use my Kahr.

No class rqd in this state for CCW

Good answer! You're taking your license very seriously as you should. I guess I should've said I'm not a fan of carrying but also that if someone is very well trained then they should be able to.
I'm not sure 8 hrs does it, my hunting and chainsaw courses were both quite a bit longer... but its better than nothing I guess.
You gave examples of how some people are licensed and probably aren't ready to actually use their weapon, I just wonder if the instructor made it clear that you had better know what your doing otherwise its better to leave the gun at home...

I live in a rural area and am quite aware how long it would take for the police to show up, we have a .22 rifle and a clip in our bedroom for coyotes after our goats. Odds are so low of us needing it for self defense against people that I will lock it up when we have kids, as having it readily accessible isn't worth the risk. I would rather lose a few goats than have something go wrong involving my family.

Congrads.

Now your Instructor is correct that is what they would *like* to do.

So now EVERYBODY join the NRA. And get their spouses, kids and every other person they know to join.

When the NRA goes to take care of business, if they jump from 3-4 million to 20 million (or more), trust me, people will notice.

Take care, bill

I just took me Carry class last Saturday also!!!

A 10 Hour course from one of the TOP 30 SHOOTERS IN AMERICA!

Then we had to go to the Range and fire 100 rounds per instruction (I had the tightest spread of the other 5). Then, took a 3 page NRA Exam.

Applied for the Permit yesterday, so in a couple weeks, I will be able to carry. We do not "have" to conceal here, but it's a good idea to.

Maybe in CALIFORNIA.... Your Instructor is probably feeding you lines of his own opinions. Look at the number of states that approve of some form of CCW rather than completely deny the right: 48 to 2.. Enough Said.

WI must be one of the two. Who is the other one? IL

Didn't mean to start anything P, but the stupid Political Propaganda being thrown around by some people is getting out of hands these days. Not directed at the OP, but the OPs instructor.

I'd say the instructor's just a very accurate fortune teller.
