Hey everybody,

Here is my friend’s UOA. He asked me to post it on here.

It was done by Oil Analyzers Inc.

He drives a 2005 Dodge Ram. Cummins Engine, 5.9 L.

Oil used: Amsoil S3000 Syn HD, 5w-30

He actually uses his pickup to its full potential. Towing a huge RV, trailers, off- roading, etc. I don’t know the specifics on the RV but he usually tows it for about 400 each way.

There are two UOAs.

In the first column, he drew a sample through the dipstick at 18422 miles. The oil was in the engine for 3637 miles. Oil was left in/ not changed.

Second column shows the same oil with 7805 miles on it (engine mileage 22590). This time the sample was taken from the oil pan, and the oil was changed.

I'm sure he would have a better UOA with Delo or Rotella- JMO. Most owners who run those oils tend to have lower wear with that interval.

The engine is still young yet with mileage, I bet in another 10k wear drops. Silicon is a little high and this is the first commonrail with zero k at a lower mileage. The TBN is what I'd expect out of 12+ tbn from the start. I agree with d-roc though and think ame tends to show better results wear wise.

I dunno, I still think a 2005 should use 15W-40. Or even 10W-40.

BUT the engine is still breaking in. This oil started with 15K on the rig.

5.9 = turbo diesel, right? Towing a huge RV, trailers, off- roading, etc
