Is there any type of coloring I can add to G-05 so I can see the level in the coolant reservoir?

Also, what happened to Coolant Man, did he get banned?

The gold dyed G-05 is about impossible to see. It looks almost like clear water. I don't know where you could get coolant dye or how good it would work adding it in after the cooling system is filled. You could always get Chrysler G-05 next time but I wouldn't want to pay more just to get the darker color.

The pale gold/yellow color is almost a non-color, I agree. If its really important or necessary to have a darker color to see the level in your overflow tank, then the safest choice would be Mopar (red) G-05, assuming you wouldn't ever fall victim to someone thinking its DexCool and topping off accordingly :p

I wouldn't feel safe adding any dye that I might have lying around the house to my cooling system. Some might be safe, but I'd be worried about them decomposing and leaving contaminants, or even adversely reacting with the corrosion inhibitors. There obviously ARE suitable dyes out there since Mopar dyes theirs red... but I wouldn't experiment personally.

I use a glycol coolant in my Pc water cooling system and use a dye bomb.It has no effect on the coolant except for color.

Why not use Mopar G-05? It looks just like Dexcool and you can see it easily.

Only downside? It costs much more than Xerex....

That's why.

That's an idea, but I just don't know hoe that dye would work in an automotive environment.

I thought someone might know if I could get the same dye the coolant manufactures use?

You'll pay for specialty coolant dye, but not for Mopar G-05?

How often are you going to change your coolant? Once or twice over the span of your vehicle ownership? Where's the rub?

I was hoping if it was even available it might be cheap since I have 4 vehicles and a riding mower that I use G-05 in, so there's where the rub would be, but it looks like I am going to have to pony up and go with the Mopar stuff.

The last three jugs of G-05 I got a few weeks ago were a pinkish-red tint from what I could tell through the level view strip on the edge of the bottle. Looked like the Mopar color. I had to double check the label to make sure I got the right stuff when I noticed it after sitting them on the shelf next to the ones I'd bought previously.

G-05 is pretty pale. I use it in my van, but I also add a couple Bar's Leaks tablets. That really changes the color.

I suspect food coloring would be OK for coolant use. The carrier fluid is usually propylene glycol. Heat might cause the color to degrade, though.

If you have several nearby Chrysler dealers, shop their price for Mopar G-05 coolant or check online.

Yes, G-05 coolant can be hard to see. I usually bump the car or give it a shake to see the coolant level in the overflow.

The only dyes I've seen are the tracer dyes used for detecting leaks. I've never seen one for everyday use.

I too noticed Coolant Man disappeared. For a month or two he was active almost every day on this forum, and then it stopped.

Probably banned like so many others for speaking his mind. This site must be setting some kind of record for locking posts and kicking people off.

I've definitely noticed quite a change regarding this over the past year or so. MY impression is that certain folks that are partial sponsers or advertisters are to blame.

Has BITOG site been sold in the past year ?

Yes, Xerex. Now six jugs sitting side-by-side on my shelf in identical bottles, three light yellow, three dark pink. Go figure.
