I have heard 2 things to 93 octane. It burns slower, so if your car is tuned to use 87 octane, and has a knock sensor, it will burn 93, but unburned feul will backwash little by little into the pistons and the oil.
The other, is 93 is very good for high mileage engines due to carbon deposits, and/or engine knocking.
I have a 95 neon with about 170,000 miles on the engine. persoanlly, ive used 87 (which is what the car book says to use), 89 and 93. Onl had engine knock once since i had it in 2000, and that was due too poor gas station fuel. Using 87, ig et best performance and no knock. 89, it runs poor, but with 93, it runs better, but seems to go through the gas quicker.
When i got my liscense, 17, my father talked too 2 differnt mechanics, early 90's. They botht old him to use 93, as long as your car has a knock sensor. why? the added additives.
