Value so many contributors on here that I must ask. Your opinions please. My past experience does not come near the findings of the article. I want to believe that the market is so competitive these days, most companies pony up and do their best to offer a quality / affordable product. I find it hard to put much into these type of write ups cause I feel the writers always have some bias. Sorry its hard to trust most print and Tv media these days. Everyone has an agenda. What do you guys think of these ratings? There are two on there I never hear anyone wants to keep using after some experience. Then there are some high quality ones I am sure we all know of that don't even make this list. https://www.autoguide.com/top-10-best-motor-oils

I've used conventional oils from major brands to store brands for nearly 45 years and haven't noticed a nickel's worth of difference from one brand to the next. I drove an '88 Ford Escort to 518K miles on various brands of 10w40 and the cheapest available filters without an overhaul or major issue. I'm currently using conventional oils that are 15-25 years old in my cars. In the 3 cars I presently have licensed/insured I'm using Citgo Supergard 10w40 (2016 Nissan Versa), another Exxon Superflo 10w40 (1997 Ford Escort station wagon) and yet another Shell Formula 10w40 (2002 Ford Escort sedan).

Let's not get into false equivalencies, that article is in no way "the same" as other media from critical sources and is clearly not written by any sort of journalist....

The main clue here is most of the oils mentioned are not "conventional" but are syn-blends...

Ha ha ha.... You R likely right. I often try to see who wrote things.... I should have before. Check the last sentence. Really? What is a "commerce editor?"

Use a dart board to pick from the 10 listed ... all would perform about the same.

At least he got this part right: "The “W” standards for winter."

At the bottom of the article: "We are committed to finding, researching, and recommending the best products. We earn commissions from purchases you make using the retail links in our product reviews."
