I've said this before and I'll say it again -- my job is to 1)make my boss look good and 2) never make my boss wonder why she hired me in the first place.
The long story, 25 years in I/T as a programmer, systems analyst, and Database Administrator, aka a DBA. After my last employer closed shop and "liberated" me from that job
, I was on what I called a trial retirement for 2 years; one completly unemployed and one working at a big-box home improvement store. I found a job as a data analyst for one of those evil insurance companies, where I've been for the last 8 years and counting. It's not a true I/T job, but I'm able to use a lot of that knowledge to make myself look almost brilliant to people who have no I/T experience.
And to those who do know better, I look pretty darn competent.
