Welders are very hard to find in Nebraska. Unemployment rate is less than three percent. Nothing like Pennsylvania but there is work for anyone looking. And we might be competitive in the Big Ten a year or two down the road.

Same here, although I've never not gotten a raise. Problem is, the total slackers will get the same 2% as me. I have gotten some good ones over the years and some "special recognition awards (cash)" but it's rare. Petro/hydro chem industry for me.
Where I work we always recognize people for helping out others and for being a 'team player' for minimum of $50 online gift card... usually its $100 Amazon or restaurant gift card.
When you recognize a colleague it also gets sent to both bosses. It helps they are aware people value their hard work and dedication.
I recently rewarded 4 colleagues for a physical inventory we had at a hospital. Even if they don't need it they can buy stuff for wife or kids.

I often wonder what Management and Supervisors have on their plate or what they have been told? They have to make tough decisions at times. When I was a Supervisor I was told my employer was considering not working with Medicaid Waiver. I could not tell my staff but all of them would have lost their job if that had gone through.
As it turns out went the other direction. Just became bigger. Over 1,000 employees. I did feel good recently. The the Vice President asked for me specifically when the house I worked at was chosen for review for 3 year accreditation. I was validated for going above and beyond.

The Human Resources lady called today & said they would not dispute unemployment if it went that far? Being 45 & starting over with a new job is never easy -- that paired with a baby on the way & a mortgage is depressive. I appreciate all the positive feedback from everyone. Hope at the least unemployment goes through until I can find another full time job with benefits.

I was thinking the same thing about West TX, Permian basin. Super low cost of living, also!
