A 23 year old pilot was flying a charter for an 82 year old bloke, who is allegedly an Australian Legend of the aviation industry, has been instrumental in safety etc.

old guy decided to take over/turn engines off/whatever (the area is typically pretty inhospitable, there's been a couple of light plane crashes that have taken weeks to find...

Apparently the 82 year old suffered severe facial injuries, was hospitalised for a couple nights and was charged today.

I would have busted the old man's face in . if he tried that [censored] with me .

Exactly. He would have been meeting his maker a little sooner than expected.

Sounds like he did, the passenger had head and facial injuries not as a result of the landing. Amazing that he fought the guy off and maintained the ability to land.

Anyone else find it odd that the passenger was then airlifted to a hospital. Would be odd to be the pilot on that run. Wonder if he was pre-restrained for the second flight.

Then he was released after being in the hospital a few hours?

As a pilot myself, this is scary stuff. You are never trained to deal with situations like this as a private pilot.

It would be incredibly difficult to do what the pilot in this story managed to do.

Wow. Must run in the industry.
I was working for an airline as a pilot and was asked by a friend who owned a flight service company to observe John Polando B 1901 (Record from Floyd Bennett Field to Istanbul, Turkey[5]1931 July 28–1931 8,066 km Russell Boardman and John Polando)
He was still flying sightseeing flights at about 75-80 years old.
He was deaf and ornery.
He took off on a tank that showed empty.Cessna 206(there were paying passengers in the plane)
I discreetly tapped the gauge and he scowled and didn't change it. A few minutes later he did.
I told my friend I thought he was past the safe point.

A few months he took off in CT with the gust lock (with the big red flag on it) still in place and crashed at the end of the runway breaking a guys back. He later died of related injuries.
